Repairs

We carry out all manner of door and window repairs, be it a full sash and case restoration, simple pvc window repair or a complete commercial door mechanism.

Replacement glass and double glazed units:

Double glazed units are standalone units within windows and doors with seals that over time can fail, causing condensation and ‘misting’ within the unit, replacing these is an everyday occurrence for our time served tradesmen. Where other companies replace these with 2 simple panes of glass, our units are the same low emissivity and argon gas filled units fitted to the newest A rated windows and doors, ensuring the best level of heat retention available today.

Single glazing is just as simple, be it a pane in a traditional sash and case window or a broken shop-front, we aim to make the replacement as fast and hassle free as possible.

We are able to supply and install an exceptionally broad selection of glass types; we pride ourselves in being able to source glass types that others believe are obsolete, as well as all of the modern patterned ranges from all of the major suppliers.

To retain the original feel of traditional windows we can install hand-made crown glass to ensure the windows stay in keeping with properties, which is available in a variety of styles – and crucially – is now available in laminated forms to give modern levels of security and thermal insulation to these most traditional of glass types.

Timber window and door repairs:

Standard concealed draught-proofing:
Essentially this is the process of dismantling the window or door and inserting concealed nylon fin/brush strips everywhere that timbers meet to eliminate draughts. In practicality, it is the single best refurbishment process possible for the product, guaranteeing it’s correct operation and repairing any minor faults that may have developed.

The process for traditional sash and case windows is very particular – While dismantled the entire window is checked thoroughly and any minor issues corrected. Excess paint is removed to ensure the sashes travel unimpeded, operation of ropes and weights checked, any minor re-puttying and sandmastic work is taken care of as standard. The parting beads are replaced with matching pre-primed/preserved beads (to minimise any future painting work) and crucially, ensuring that the window is in perfect working order.

Along with painting or varnishing, this process is the most effective way of ensuring the longevity of traditional windows.

Replacement ironmongery:
Originally only available in a brass finish, all ironmongery can now be replaced in various chromed and other metallic finishes. We source ironmongery from various suppliers to ensure as close a match to the original as possible, and can replace only some or all of the mechanism parts on the windows and doors.

We can install simplex kits (for easy cleaning of the windows) to traditional windows that did not have them installed when they were manufactured.

Replacement external cills:
The external cill is the section of the window or door that is usually the first to become weather damaged and begin to rot. If left unattended to this can spread to the surrounding timbers but it is no problem for our joiners to remove all of the affected area and replace with a new matching timber section.

Replacement sandmastic:
It can become necessary over time to replace the external sealant between the wall and frame, while small patches can be easily replaced it is often best to remove all of the defective mastic, fill the gaps between the frame and wall with insulating foam (a modern solution that greatly improves thermal retention), and replace all of the sandmastic with the traditional materials in the traditional manner.

Replacement glazing:
In the majority of windows we can fit double glazing into originally single glazed windows. The process can be hindered by the profiles of the sashes and the space available to fit additional weights to balance the additional weight of the glass, but we can certainly fit far more modern glass to the windows (whether it be for heat retention, sound insulation, privacy, or just to replace cracked and broken panes), as well as original crown and rolled glass in both standard and laminated safety glass forms.

Due to the amount of glass types, sizes and variants we can only price these on application. If you can send us sizes and a description of the glass, we can give relatively accurate prices by email or phone.

Replacement sash ropes:
Our British made nylon core ropes look identical to the original high-grade ropes but are superior even to these, guaranteed to last for many years to come.

Aluminium window repairs:

The spiral balances, double glazed units and perimeter seals are usually the first parts of these to fail, resulting in sashes that drop like guillotines, misted double glazing and draughts from the edges of the windows. Replacing these when required is usually all that is necessary to ensure the windows stay in good condition.

Cupolas and conservatory roofs:

Large expanses of glass can either be a fantastic feature or a recipe for disaster. We often replace the glazing with more thermally efficient double glazed units to give not only reassurance that the glass is safe, but to ensure that the heat is controlled to the desired effect.

Mechanism repairs:

Window and door locks:

Where others will simply recommend replacement windows and doors as they are unable to fix existing problems, we regularly adjust, repair and maintain windows and doors to return them to full functionality.

Our time served tradesmen work exclusively with windows and doors, ensuring they have a full understanding of both the mechanisms and operation of the vast majority of door and window systems.

u-Pvc window and door repairs:

The mechanisms in modern windows and doors can often need adjusted over time, both this and – if necessary – the complete replacement of all manner of mechanisms pose no problems.

Commercial door repairs:

The most frequently used of all glazing products, commercial doors have to work faultlessly every time while retaining the image of the business and providing exceptional levels of security. While working on these we are always mindful that the replacement glass must give the absolute highest level of security and the mechanisms the most robust operation possible, and with our out-of-hours service, keeping disruption to trading to an absolute minimum.
